Addison Rae is a sensation on TikTok.
She has over 88 million followers on the social media platform.
But Rae is now garnering a great deal of backlash for a photo that many critics believe is sensational in the negative context of that word.
As in: she is presenting information in a way that’s intended to provoke public interest and excitement… at the expense of accuracy or appropriateness.
On Tuesday, the 21-year-old shared an Instagram photo of herself in Praying’s Holy Trinity Bikini, which retails for $100… and which consists of the following:
A top that is printed with “Father” on one side; and “Son” on the other.
While the snapshot (below) only captured Rae’s top half, the bottom of the scandalous swimsuit — was created in collaboration with Adidas — reads “Holy Spirit.”
Take a look for yourself:
A few of Rae’s well-known friends gushed over the bold outfit.
Photographer Mark “The Cobrasnake” Hunter called it a “home run,” for example, and singer Tate McRae wrote, “oh my god addision.”
But plenty of other commenters expressed their disapproval of the daring swim style in the comments section of the post.
“Nah this disrespectful to Jesus. Sad what y’all do for money,” one critic wrote, while another pearl-clutcher added:
“This is not okay! BLASPHEMY!”
Said a third: “Is nobody gonna talk about this disrespecting religions,” a third wrote.
A fourth, meanwhile, labeled the bikini as simply being “so messed up.”
Rae is no stranger to controversy.
She disappeared from social media for a bit two years ago after a bunch of racially-insensitive posts resurfaced from her past.
“I owe all of you an apology,” Rae said to open a lengthy mea culpa, shared to her Instagram Stories and on Twitter, back then.
“Four years ago,” she went on, “I reposted a video.
Addison detailed that it was a video “which included a woman sharing her thoughts on Black Lives Matter and All Lives Matter.”
Continued Rae: “Because of my privilege, I didn’t understand.”
She said that she didn’t grasp the subject “and wasn’t educated enough on the social injustices facing the Black community.”
All lives CANNOT matter until Black lives do,” Addison correctly affirmed as part of this message.
“The Black community continues to be oppressed. And the Black community has been and continues to be “damaged by systemic racism.”
Will Rae say anything in the wake of this latest scandal?
Will she suffer any consequences?
Will she feel as though she owes fans an explanation?
Only time, dear readers, will tell.
